HOW IT WORKS

How it works.

  1. If you are seriously keen about joining our food club please send me an email to goodfoodclubhoutbay@gmail.com. I will need your full name, contact number(I will use this to send you a WhatsApp reminder when the Store is open and when it closes) and your email. This way I can let you know of new suppliers/products we have, let you know if products wont be available(we are dealing with local farmers and produce is dependent on so many things), reminders and invoicing. I promise I will only send you the essential information from month to month. Please remember we are human, this is real, raw(sometimes flawed) way of buying food – but its such a beautiful way of buying food.

  2. Once I have your email, I will send you an info pack. This will contain all the start up info you will need.

  3. Orders will open on 2nd Monday of the month and Close on 2nd Friday of the month, With a “Market” day on 3rd Friday of the month. We advise you do not order if you wont be able to collect from my home in Hout Bay on “Market” day between 2pm and 6pm. Reason being, I just don’t have the space to store your goodies and I cant promise my pets wont take a nibble.

  4. There is an admin fee for orders less than R500, Believe it or not it takes the same amount of time to process a R500 order as it does a R5000 order. This is a standard GFC practice.

  5. After you place your order online you need to EFT me the money immediately. Please hop straight onto your online banking and pay the GFC account, please use your name as the reference. *If you do not pay by the time orders close, your order WILL NOT be processed(Please pop me a WhatsApp so I know you have paid). Once you have been with us for a few months I’ll request payment AFTER market day(As the admin is much less) But first time buyers must please pay upfront initially. More on this in our info section. Please note we don’t work on a cash basis at ALL, its just safer this way.

  6. Once your order is placed and paid for I quickly get to mailing the orders off to the suppliers to make sure the goods are delivered on time for the market day.

  7. MARKET DAY is crazy, busy and fun!!! We advise members to come relaxed and with time to spare. We encourage friendship and community on these days. Market days are at my home, you can find the google maps address in the contacts section. You are more then welcome to bring the kids, please note that I do have an uncovered pool. The goods will be laid out in a way that you amble around and collect your goods, at the same time you can browse what others have bought and get to know the products. This does mean that we have to check, double check and triple check your orders before you leave, Please bear with us. Please remember to bring your shopping bags and cooler boxes on market day.

  8. After market day I might send you an adjusted invoice with the differences in prices for goods that had to be weighed. If you owe slightly more then your original invoice please pay this ASAP so I can pay our suppliers. If your invoice is slightly under then I will reimburse you to start with and then when you become a frequent buyer I can hold it as a credit to your next order.

Things to note:

  1. Here’s what we are not: We are not a shop. We are not distributors for our partners. We do not get paid by the producers to sell their food. We are not a retailer. We are not a “budget” buying club. Our aim is not to find the cheapest version of whatever we’re looking for. Our prices may sometimes be higher than your local supermarket, although for the most part we find that they are lower. Don’t expect store-packaged goods! Cost cutting is not our aim. Eating better is.
  2. Reason we ask you to pay before in the start is so we can get to know you. Once I place your order I am personally liable to pay for the goods. Once I get to know you after a few months I will let you pay after you receive your goods on good faith. Reason we do this is mainly because of our meat and cheese suppliers. A lot of the meat/dairy is calculated by weight. We ESTIMATE the weight per product so we can give you an idea of what the final cost will be. This cost will MOST LIKELY change. If you ordered 1kg and the butcher gives you 1.1kgs then you will need to pay the balance, in reverse if you only get 950g then I will need to reimburse you. This gets ugly but gets made easier with an after payment. I will send you an invoice after market if there was a difference in weights/prices.
  3. You don’t need to order every month, BUT because the GFC is limited to a certain number of members (in order for it to remain manageable and community driven), so if you don’t order for 6 months plus (ish), your spot might be given up to someone who is more eager to get involved.
  4. Hout Bay Good Food Club will only be open to residents of greater Hout Bay/Llandudno/Camps Bay areas. If you would like to join a GFC and you do not fall in our area let me know where you are and maybe I can hook you up with a GFC in your area.
  5. The shop unfortunately doesnt have product images for all products, some suppliers don’t have pictures of their products but I will try my best overtime to add these. I have (fairly often) ordered things and have been surprised by what they looked/tasted like, but it’s par for the course. So expect it. At Market Day, you will see everything that has been ordered for that month, so it’s a good time to take a peek at what different products look like. Feel free to Google the supplier and learn about the products. That’s encouraged! Get to know where you food has come from…
  6. The mission of all GFC’s is that you buy BETTER. In some cases it is certified organic, in other cases it is GMO free. In other ways it means buying ethically and locally (supporting local farmers). It is very hard (almost impossible) to buy perfectly, so we’re doing the best we can.
